Take away the stress

Meditation is a great stress reliever and if you want to get away from the constant noise of life, meditation can do that too. If you are feeling overwhelmed or just need some time to yourself, find a quiet place where you can sit comfortably without disruption. Although many people sit on the floor when they meditate, you can sit where ever you wish. The only requirement is that it is comfortable.

When you are sitting comfortably, choose a word that you can use as a mantra. A mantra is a word that you will chant, so, chose a nice word, something that feels good and isn't too long of a word. You don't want to get tongue-tied

Now, close your eyes, think of nothing but your word, and start to say your word over and over again. Just stay focused on your mantra, if you feel yourself being pulled away by an outside distraction, focus more on your mantra. Nobody can tell you how to chant, it is up to you. You can sing your word. You can say your word very slowly. You can say your word loudly. It doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that you focus on chanting your word.

Before too long you will feel naturally ready to stop. Just sit quietly for a few moments and feel the energy within.

Now you are ready to go back into the world feeling lighter and more able to cope.

Meditative sounds - chose what works for you

If you want to change how you practice meditation, a couple of things you can consider is music, chants, or sounds on CD. It takes most people some time to settle on a meditation style that suits them and there are plenty of styles to choose from.

Some people find that listening to a CD is the best way for them to find relaxation and a sense of peace. Choose whatever works for you, we are all different. Most music stores, even the big box music stores, will have a section of what they call 'new age' music. Typically this is where you will find music suitable for meditation.

Fortunately, most music stores also have earphones so that you can listen to the CD before you actually buy it. Many online music sites also let you listen to parts of the CD compilation as well so if you would prefer to download your music then go ahead.

You will find a wide choice of music including some classics such as the Gregorian Chant, to chanting by gurus, and even the sounds of nature. Take your time finding the one that you like to meditate with. It is well worth the effort.

Why meditate
© h.koppdelaney

Now science is starting to ask the question "why meditate". And scientist apparently are actually getting real facts to support meditation as healthy way of living. Some scientist say that a human who meditates brain is like night and day compared to one who doesn't. Although the facts are slim for the time research is still being undergone. I'm sure that one day meditation will be implemented in workplaces. If this truly does help the brain remain on a healthy level the economy could actually flourish from the powers that meditation gives the human brain. The amount of work that could be obtained from a stress free environment could greatly increase production and decrease down times. In short if this is proven to be an actual way for us to live healthier everyone will jump aboard for the benefits of meditation. Especially if we are paid to do something that's healthy for us.

meditation a state of mind

meditation a state of mind

Some may think that meditation is a ritual that is performed at a specific time in the day or week. But in my experience it goes beyond the act alone. For me Meditation is a way of life and habit altering lifestyle. If one would stop and practice patience in all that he does. He will soon find that his choices and actions are all made on a more free approach in his life. His state of mind in his life will be a casual approach and one of more temperance and even love, if one so desired. For me to attempt to move through life on an emotional level can be a frustrating life. Meditation can relieve all the negative emotional side affects and even improve on romantic and friendly relationships. There is only one thing left once you read all the input on meditation there is out there. Just try it.
